Nada Surf: Let Go (*****)
Jim Wallis: God's Politics
The tag-line of the books says it all:
Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It.
Elie Wiesel: Night
...people should be forced to read this...it will change you.
Karen Armstrong: Holy War
Some amazing insight into the Modern Conflict in the Middle East comes from analyzing the crusades and their influence. Some of her premises are a bit off base, but an excellent read.
Rob Bell: Velvet Elvis : Repainting the Christian Faith
Brilliant.
The Relevant Church
This is where everything is headed.
Mike Yaconelli: Messy Spirituality
Should be required reading for anyone in ministry.
Eugene Peterson: The Message Remix
The most exciting treatment of the scriptures that I have found.
Mark Steele: Flashbang
Hilarious and really insightful.
Andy Stanley: Visioneering
Best book on understanding and discerning vision...ever.
Thomas L. Friedman: The World is Flat
I love history and this one of the best I've read on the subject.
C.S. Lewis: Mere Christianity
Mindblowing. I walk away changed in a different way everytime I read it.
Thoreau: Walden
...the way it should be.
Philip Yancey: The Jesus I Never Knew
This book changed everything for me.
Donald Miller: Blue Like Jazz
Helped me to see how difficult I have made loving God and loving others.
Brennan Manning: The Ragamuffin Gospel
This book reached into places I didn't know I had.
I am a Student Minister with a passion for teaching students how to Love God and Love People!
Well, I come from the great state of Texas. I am the oldest of 3 kids (Brandy, Chris). My mother and father (Rick and Terri) have been married for 28 years! I love working with students! Teens are my life and I can imagine doing anything else.
Here's a bit of insight into how I think:
I want to be passionate about life, about loving others, about fighting for what's right, helping those who are helpless .all the naive, idealistic stuff that people laugh at. I think it's ok to not be ok all the time. I think that love is willing to fight yourself for someone else. I think that our flaws and imperfections give us value. I think people are worried about the wrong things. I think you should love yourself first. I think you should value and maintain your body, mind and spirit. I think farts are funny. I think racism is never funny. I think a guitar is an outlet. I think variety is the spice of life, but most people eat the same thing. I think crying is the most freeing thing you can do. I think being quiet is the most underrated thing ever. I know there is a God. I think that war is not just. I think that Oprah is scary. I think being sweaty is OK. I think that money can buy stuff that breaks. I think pumpkin patches are pretty cool. I think mountain biking is better than drugs. I think someone who is well-read is attractive. I think laughing makes you whole. I think girls who bite their bottom lip when they think should be cloned(joking people...joking). I think hope is better than success. I think the past is old news. I think Frou Frou is a great band. I think my buddies would beat me up for saying that Frou Frou is a great band. I think the cynics don't get it. I think the GIRLS GONE WILD guys should be drug out to a street and beat. I think that tattoos say a lot. I think that religion kills. I think that Bono should win the Nobel Prize. I think words without actions are cheap. I think poet's still live. I think dogs and cats can go-exist. I think the end is another beginning.
reading, writing, playing guitar, listening to music (big-time), mountain biking, rock-climbing, war movies, The History Channel (awesome), ESPN, Brennan Manning, Rob Bell, U2, Zero 7, Coldplay, Mute Math, Philip Yancey, CS Lewis, coffee shops, concerts...good times in Naptown!
